Anoushka Sharma is a social media intern at the Film Lab. She is an actor, writer, and director of film and theatre, passionate about using the arts as a tool for community-building and change-making. Anoushka is currently a student at Barnard College of Columbia University pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in English (Creative Writing) and Theater. In 2019, Anoushka published “Hidden in Plain Sight: Images, Words, and Reflections,” her debut book of poetry and photography. She wrote her first play, “Chai,” in 2023, exploring issues of identity politics between South Asian teenage girls. She is also the creator of the short film, “Health First: A Short Film on Mental Health,” aiming to address and combat the mental health crisis amongst American youth. As an actor, Anoushka recently performed in “Wailsong” at The Tank’s Trashfest 2025, and in “Treatment History” at the 2025 New York Theater Festival. Anoushka is also passionate about arts education, teaching theater at McCarter Theater Center in Princeton, New Jersey since 2020, firmly believing that everyone deserves access to an arts education, without which we are all less human.
As a South Asian woman, Anoushka believes that to write, perform, and direct her own stories is a form of liberation, rooted in the belief that the arts are a tool to uplift those who have been historically marginalized. She hopes to continue urging audiences to think and feel in new ways in her future work!
